“The Best We Achieved Between 2010 and 2024”

  • Dean’s Award Competition – a prestigious competition in which bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students present the results of their research. Thanks to cooperation with the ČEZ Foundation, participants also receive financial support.
  • Dean’s Award for High School Students – a competition for secondary school students, organized by the Faculty for five years. Its aim is to foster their interest in economics and research.
  • Doctoral student Marek Feurich was selected by the Regional Studies Association for European Commission seminars on EU cohesion policy.
  • Doctoral student Vojtěch Dvořák received the prestigious Neuron & IOCB Tech Internships in Israel scholarship.
  • High school student Štěpán Drábek was awarded the 2024 Prize of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic for his work on inflation (supervised by Pavel Potužák of the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business).
  • Atlas Copco Services Award 2023 – 3rd place went to Faculty graduate Kamila Němečková for her master’s thesis on the impacts of electromobility. The award for thesis supervision was granted to Associate Professor Miroslav Ševčík.
  • GAČR Grant 2023 – Associate Professor Miroslav Vacura succeeded with his project Pragmatics and Ethics of Large Language Models in Democracy.
  • Since 2018, the Prague University of Economics and Business has recognized the most popular teachers of the year based on student voting. For the Faculty of Economics, Ing. Michal Mirvald, Ph.D. received this award in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
  • In 2022, Professor Zdeněk Chytil, Dean of the Faculty of Economics (2018–2022), was awarded a medal for his merits in the development of the University of Economics and Business.
  • The Faculty of Economics consistently ranks among the top positions in the Týden magazine ranking, which evaluates economics faculties in the Czech Republic based on student demand, teaching quality, research, and external assessments.
  • The Faculty initiated the awarding of honorary doctorates to leading world economists – Richard Thaler (2015), Hans-Werner Sinn (2017), and John A. List (2022).
  • Horizon Europe projects – the Faculty has been involved in an international project supporting the transformation of coal regions (2022–2024).
  • In 2024, the HORIZON-CL6 project was submitted and advanced to the second round of EU evaluation. The principal investigator on behalf of the Prague University of Economics and Business is Professor Martin Pělucha.
  • Internationalization of doctoral studies: interactive course Scientific Publishing in Economics (Professor Jean-Robert Tyran), aimed at demonstrating to PhD students the importance of academic publishing and how to succeed in prestigious journals.
  • Since the winter semester of 2022/2023, students have had the opportunity to attend special courses taught by professors from prestigious foreign universities. These courses broaden students’ horizons, bring insights from global academic trends, and motivate them to pursue study abroad.

  • Minor specialization “Practicum in Public Administration” – since 2018, this program has enabled students to undertake a three-month internship at the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the OECD in Paris.

University of Glasgow

  • Cooperation since October 2022.

  • March 2023 – visit of a delegation, workshop marking the 300th anniversary of Adam Smith’s birth.

  • Spring 2024 – scientific workshop with the participation of the Vice-Dean for International Relations and the Director of LEE.

  • June 2024 – the first Prague–Glasgow Summer School in Economics, a joint summer school for Czech and Scottish students, received very positive feedback.

KDI School of Public Policy and Management (Korea)

  • Launch of an incoming double degree program.

  • March 2024 – webinar for prospective Korean students interested in studying at the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business.

Ocean University of China

  • June 2024 – cooperation renewed during the visit of a Chinese delegation.

  • Plans: joint summer/winter school in economics, exchange of students and academics, and the prospect of future double degree programs.

Newly accredited doctoral courses

  • 2012 – first accreditation of the English-taught bachelor’s program Economics at the Prague University of Economics and Business.

  • 2018–2020 – successful re-accreditation of all bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, alignment with international university standards, and restructuring of minor specializations.

  • 2019 – launch of the English-taught master’s program Economics and Public Policy.

  • January 2023 – expansion of elective courses to strengthen language competences and international experience (e.g., Chapters in Economics II, Short-Term International Professional Internship).

  • May/June 2023 – update of all study plans and an increase in credit allocation for bachelor’s and master’s theses with the aim of improving the quality of final theses.

  • Regular course Organization of Markets, Industries, and the Public Sector from the Perspective of Managers, featuring top managers from the fields of finance, healthcare, sports, energy, and public administration.

  • Flexible timetable creation.

  • Opportunity for regular consultations with the Study Department via Facebook.

  • The Faculty has long focused on applied economic research, with results implemented in practice – ranging from social policy to foreign exchange interventions and energy.
  • High publishing activity – the Faculty of Economics ranks among the top institutions in the Czech Republic in terms of the number of academic articles per faculty member.
  • Between 2010 and 2023, the Faculty successfully habilitated 19 associate professors and 5 full professors, and obtained or carried out 25 GAČR grants.
  • Since April 2023, the Faculty has had representation in two evaluation panels of GAČR, the only institution in the Czech Republic providing support for basic research.
  • Experimental approach to both teaching and research – including the involvement of secondary school students in economic experiments.
  • Active international cooperation – networking at the University of Glasgow and partnership with Babeș-Bolyai University.

During the first Innovation Week of the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business (at the turn of October and November 2022), the Faculty transformed into a place full of inspiration and discovery. Students could participate in a wide range of events – from a lecture by Professor Jean-Robert Tyran of the University of Vienna, to meetings with experts from EY, and a discussion on the budgetary process of the City of Prague with Ing. Patrik Paneš, Ph.D., and Pavel Vyhnánek, M.A.
The program also included a workshop on coal mining and trade in Czechoslovakia, a visit to Deloitte, the Social Policy 2022 conference, and excursions: to the Czech National Bank (Behind the Currency), to the Mayrau Mining Museum, as well as a tour of Prague sites linked to the economic history of the Czech lands.

The second Innovation Week took place in March 2023 and offered students a rich program. The Faculty welcomed a delegation from the University of Glasgow, and visiting lecturer Theodore Koutmeridis conducted an extracurricular course Psychology, Economics and Experiments.
Students also went on excursions around Prague – visiting the Supreme Audit Office, the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and the Czech National Bank; they took part in a historical walk through Malá Strana and visited a social care facility for people with disabilities.
At the University, a series of external lectures was delivered by professionals from practice – with contributions from representatives of EY, ČEZ, the Prague City Hall, and the Prague Institute for Planning and Development.

The third Innovation Week took place in November 2023 and offered students an exceptionally diverse program. The Faculty welcomed Professor Marco Avarucci of the University of Glasgow, who taught the extracurricular course Introduction to Time Series Analysis. A distinguished guest was also Dr. Kolmová, Vice-President of the Austrian National Bank, who delivered two lectures: Scientific Foundations for Successful Innovative Design and Markets vs. State Interventions.
Students also had the opportunity to meet other top experts: Ing. Aleš Zatloukal and Ing. Dalibor Dymák from ČEZ, Professor Petr Drulák, Ph.D. from the Institute of International Relations, and JUDr. Lenka Bradáčová, Ph.D., Chief Public Prosecutor.
The program further included attractive excursions – for example to the Czech National Bank and to the National Memorial at Vítkov.

The fourth Innovation Week took place in April 2024 and once again offered students a rich program. The Faculty welcomed back Professor Theodore Koutmeridis (University of Glasgow) and, for the first time, Professor Nikolaos Belesis (University of Piraeus), who taught the course Financial Statements Analysis: Practical Guide for Economists.
The week also included excursions to the Supreme Audit Office and the Czech National Bank. In addition, students attended expert lectures by, for example, Ing. Aleš Zatloukal and Ing. Dalibor Dymák from ČEZ, and JUDr. Ladislav Švec from the Health Insurance Bureau.

  • Ceremonial opening of the academic year in the Riding Hall of Prague Castle.

  • Orientation courses for new students.

  • Christmas tree decorating at the Faculty of Economics – a traditional opportunity for students and teachers to meet in an informal atmosphere.

  • November 2022 – launch of the Faculty of Economics Alumni Mentoring Program, connecting students from their second year onwards with alumni with more than five years of professional experience. The program strengthens the practical dimension of studies and builds a networking community.

  • Freshmen orientation courses – traditionally organized every September. Students gain their first friends, valuable information about studying, and begin their academic journey together. These courses have long enjoyed very positive feedback.

  • Regular ceremonial gatherings on the occasion of awarding the best bachelor’s and master’s students.

The Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, regularly organizes academic and public events on current economic topics:

  • Social Policy 2023 – scientific conference on austerity measures.

  • The Future of Nuclear Energy in the Czech Republic (2023).

  • Implementation of Economic Policy in Agriculture under the Conditions of the Energy Crisis (2023).

  • Leadership & Politics & Governance in Turbulent Times (2024) – in cooperation with universities in the UK and France.

  • International Conference on Economics, Finance and Business (organized jointly with ESCP Business School Paris and the Faculty of Economics, 2023 and 2024).

  • Science4Policy – interactive seminar held at Masaryk University in Brno (2024).

  • Regional seminars in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

In November 2023, the Department of Economic and Social Policy organized the Social Policy 2023 scientific conference with the subtitle Room for Austerity Measures. Keynote speakers included Associate Professor MUDr. Iva Holmerová, Ph.D., a leading Czech expert in gerontology and an experienced healthcare manager, and Ing. Miroslav Zámečník, Chief Economist of the Czech Banking Association.

At the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, students meet with leading figures from Czech business, politics, and public life. Guest lecturers have included, for example, Daniel Beneš – CEO of ČEZ, Lenka Bradáčová – Chief Public Prosecutor in Prague, Marian Jelínek – coach and ice hockey trainer, Milan Fridrich – Programme Director of Czech Television, and Professor Antonín Pařízek – leading obstetrician. These lectures connect students’ theoretical knowledge with real-world experience.

The Faculty of Economics has long-standing cooperation with major partners such as the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ČEZ, and other key institutions and companies.

Research projects address pressing issues ranging from energy transition to regional development (e.g., Financial Health Analysis of the Municipality of Velké Popovice, 2024).

The Faculty also collaborates with the Karlovy Vary Region through a program supporting thesis writers. Students thus focus on topics with a direct impact on the region, such as The Economic Restart of Spa Industry after the Pandemic or More Efficient Forms of Public Transport in the Region. The results were personally recognized by the Governor of the Region, Ing. Petr Kulhánek.

  • Graduates of the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, rank among the most successful in the labor market – their unemployment rate is virtually zero.
    Many hold top positions in both the corporate and public sectors.
    They also contribute to teaching by sharing their professional experience, thereby linking theory with practice.
  • In 2017, the VŠE Alumni Club was established. Since then, it has offered:
    • Alumni Wednesdays – a series of lectures and discussions.

    • Workshops for students.

    • Mentoring program “NF Alumni Mentoring” (since 2022) – connecting students with alumni with professional experience.

    • Regular surveys mapping the employment outcomes of graduates on the labor market.

  • Classroom shadowing for high school students – introduced in 2023 and met with great interest.

  • Participation in Gaudeamus education fairs and other events, Open Days, the “Spanilé jízdy” project, and cooperation with partner secondary schools.

  • Active communication on social media (Facebook, Instagram).

  • Alumni newsletter connecting the Faculty with its former students.
