General Information About Minor Specialisations

Students enrolled in the English-taught programme Economics and Public Policy are automatically assigned the following minor specialisation: 5MEP – Modern Economic and Political History.

Students enrolled in the Master’s degree programme who have not yet selected a minor specialisation are eligible to apply for one.

Registration takes place via the InSIS student portal.

Please note that:

  • Registration means binding application for a minor specialisation (MS); the MS has not yet been officially granted.

  • Selection procedure (if applicable) is the phase during which specific additional conditions must be met; the MS has not yet been granted.

  • Automated enrolment is the phase during which registered MS are confirmed (the MS is still not officially granted).

  • Manual enrolment allows for enrolment into MS within remaining capacity limits; the MS is still not officially granted.

Minor specialisations that have been successfully assigned are recorded in your study record approximately one day before the subsequent “automated enrolment,” when course enrolments take place. The MS will appear under your name in the format N-ES-5BE, for example.

Important:
Manual enrolment may continue beyond this point; however, there is no guaranteed entitlement to enrol in MS courses (especially above capacity). Although the MS is granted directly at this stage, issues may arise (e.g., if your previously granted MS was revoked).

Timeline

The exact registration and enrolment dates are published in the VŠE academic calendar.

Phases of the MS Registration Process

Phase I: Online Registration via the InSIS Student Portal

  • Registration order does not impact acceptance.

  • Students may register for an unlimited number of MS options and assign a priority to each.

  • The list of compulsory MS courses can be found via the link “Please refer to the Study Plan Guide” in the InSIS portal.

  • Some MS may require simultaneous participation in a selection procedure (e.g., submission of a motivation letter via a designated online folder).

Phase II: Automated Enrolment

  • MS are allocated to students based on priority and fulfilment of admission criteria.

  • First, MS with priority 1 are evaluated.

    • If a selection procedure is in place (e.g., points awarded for motivation letters, e-tests, GPA), students with the highest scores are enrolled first.

    • For MS without a selection procedure, students with the highest number of earned credits (or fewest failed credits) are enrolled first.

  • Once capacity is reached for a given MS, the system moves on to evaluate MS with lower priorities (e.g., priority 2, 3, etc.).

  • Results can be tracked in the InSIS portal.

Phase III: Manual Enrolment

  • Students can manually enrol in MS with remaining capacity (priority may play a role).

Phase IV: Final Enrolment and Study Record Update

  • Only after the end of the manual enrolment phase are MS officially recorded in the student’s academic agenda.

  • Once this is done, students gain access to MS course groups for course registration.

Course Registration for MS

  • Students must register for MS courses via the standard InSIS registration and enrolment system.

  • Once enrolled, the MS code (e.g., NF N-ES-HP-3HR) will be visible next to your name.

  • No courses are pre-assigned or pre-registered on your behalf.

Note:
Manual enrolment ends before the course registration deadline to allow newly enrolled students to register for MS courses during the final two days of the registration period. This ensures they have higher enrolment priority for compulsory (priority 1) and elective (priority 2) MS courses.
