The Scientific Council of the Faculty Approved Two Habilitations in Economic Policy
On 24 September 2025, the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, convened to discuss two habilitation proceedings in the field of Economic Policy. Both proceedings were successfully concluded, and the Scientific Council recommended their submission to the Rector of the University for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.
The title of Associate Professor was proposed to be awarded to:
Ing. Milan Bednář, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the Department of Economic and Social Policy, for an exceptionally extensive and analytically sophisticated habilitation thesis on inflation in the Czech economy, comprising 380 pages. He delivered his habilitation lecture entitled “The Inflation Wave 2022–2023 in the Czech Republic: Analysis of the Inflationary Background and the Responses of Monetary and Fiscal Policy Since 2012.” The habilitation committee was chaired by Prof. Václav Klaus, CSc., dr.h.c.mult., a distinguished expert in macroeconomics and economic policy. Other members of the committee included, among others, Prof. Erika Pastoráková, Dean of the Faculty of National Economy at the University of Economics in Bratislava. One of the opponents was Assoc. Prof. Jozef Makúch, Ph.D., former Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia.
Ing. Bc. Jiří Rotschedl, Ph.D., from the Departments of Economic and Social Policy and Economics, for his habilitation thesis focusing on the impact of population dynamics on macroeconomic development in the Czech Republic and his lecture “Analysis of the Impact of Population Dynamics on Selected Macroeconomic Indicators in the Czech Republic, 1993–2023.” The habilitation committee was chaired by Prof. Karel Zeman, CSc. Among the opponents was Assoc. Prof. Jitka Langhamrová, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Demography at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics, Prague University of Economics and Business.
In both cases, the committees praised the high scholarly standard of the submitted works, the topical relevance of the research themes, and their contribution to economic policy practice.
