The Faculty of Economics welcomes new distinguished academics
The Faculty of Economics, Prague University of Economics and Business, welcomes two distinguished academics of international renown – Nikolaos Apergis and Silvester van Koten. Both new faculty members bring extensive experience, prestigious scientific achievements, and unique expertise that will significantly contribute to the development of research and teaching.
Nikolaos Apergis – A Globally Recognized Economist
Nikolaos Apergis specializes in applied macroeconomics, macro-finance, and environmental and energy economics. According to the Stanford/Elsevier ranking, he belongs to the top 2% of the most cited researchers worldwide and is ranked among the top 10% of European economists by RePEc.
He has published more than 260 articles in leading journals, including Journal of International Money & Finance, Energy Economics, and Journal of Cleaner Production. His h-index of 68 confirms the exceptional scholarly impact of his work.
For his research activities, he has received numerous prestigious awards and grants, such as the Research Scholarship at the London School of Economics, the Research Scholarship of the Latsis Foundation, and the Hanzekovic Foundation Best Paper Award.
Silvester van Koten – Expert in Energy and Experimental Economics
Silvester van Koten focuses on the functioning and regulation of energy markets, auction mechanisms, and behavioral aspects of decision-making, using experimental methods and market modeling.
He has previously served as Head of the Department of Institutional, Environmental, and Experimental Economics at the Faculty of Economics. He has also gained experience at international institutions, including the Florence School of Regulation (European University Institute). His publications include numerous articles in leading international journals such as Energy Economics and European Economic Review.
His distinctions include the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (2021), 2nd place in the Loyola de Palacio Dissertation Competition (2009), and several major research grants.
