CALL FOR PAPERS

Deadline: 31st January 2016

Institutional change can cast a long shadow. Central and Eastern Europe has been the scene of several sudden, radical institutional overhauls in the last century alone. This fact makes the region one of the most fruitful research grounds for those who are interested in studying the impact of institutions on economic development and vice versa. The WEast network was established in 2011 with a view to highlight the importance of research on Central and Eastern Europe and its contribution not only to our understanding of historical developments in the region but also of broader question of history, politics and economics.

The WEast workshop in Prague will offer an opportunity to share and discuss ideas and research pertaining to these questions. Organizers from the Department of Institutional, Environmental and Experimental Economics of The University of Economics in Prague/Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze (VŠE) invite both established researchers and graduate students to submit their scientific work. We particularly welcome research into general economic issues from a historical perspective or into less widely known aspects of Central and Eastern Europe’s development.

Those wishing to participate should email their research paper and/or extended abstract along with short academic CV to Miroslav Zajíček (miroslav.zajicek@vse.cz) no later than 31st January 2016. Selected participants will be informed soon afterwards. There is no participation fee but travel expenses and hotel accommodation costs will be borne by the participants themselves. Participation package includes free catering. We can also arrange free accommodation in single room student dorms for those on limited budget. Further details about exact arrangements will be communicated to selected participants and also made available at http://weast.info/.

The University of Economics in Prague / Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze is a leading institution of economic and business education in the Czech Republic. The Department of Institutional, Environmental and Experimental Economics is a home to a group of young dynamic scholars with an active research agenda.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact miroslav.zajicek@vse.cz.
